Sweet Potatoes

The joy of harvesting

By Seema PatelPublished 6 months ago β€’ 1 min read

I have been gardening,

for 15 years now

and have grown a lot.

No, it's not always success,

but I learn,

from trial and error.

It's a habit to shove,

a seed, root, tuber,

whatever I find.

Then I wait,

to see if,

the soil and environment

will cooperate

to let the plant

germinate and thrive.

Once, I had put,

chunks of sweet potatoes,

the vines appeared,

I picked the tender,

heart-shaped leaves

to make stir-fry with garlic.

Months later, one day,

while digging the soil,

I got those plump tubers.

What joy!

More than finding treasures,

home-grown sweet potatoes.
