Sweet like Nanna
Chocolatey hands and a full heart
C upboards in Nanna’s kitchen, just out of reach,
H ands held out - cupped at the ready.
O h how I did anything for those
C reamy confectioner’s pearls.
O nly if you were good though – bribery using
L ittle morsels bought for baking.
A llowed exclusively after dinner,
T aunting siblings, comparing handfuls, ensuring you received
E XACTLY the same number.
.
B est believe I still sneak them,
U nmatched by any candy or sweet,
T hey melt in my mouth,
T hey melt into sticky-hand goodness.
O ne by one, or all in one go,
N ostalgia still tingles my tastebuds with
S weet memories of Nanna’s love.
