Swallowed The Storm

A Poem

The current was rushing in as I held on for dear life,

crashing against the surface was every desperate attempt to drown me.

My lungs fill with water and I struggled to breathe,

a beacon of light shone from the sky amidst the chaos,

the eye of the storm.

I exhale,

find my footing against the current,

I prepare myself for the battle ahead.

The strength in my bones root themselves into the core of the earth,

I stand taller,

preventing any current from taking me ever again.

I stare at the storm as it comes in,

it explodes into rain droplets, carefully cascading down my face,

the sky clears up and the day awakens.

I never let the storm swallow me whole,

I swallowed the storm and exhaled a new day,

a new light into my life.
