Escaping is forever

Misbegotten

Best forgotten

Something you push through.

Memories filled up with haze

Because you want them to.

Far too strong to shatter

Though you try with all your might;

Fever dreams

Of losing schemes

Creep back to you at night.

Wrapping round your freezing guilt

They choke like arctic smoke.

Suffocate beneath their weight

Or claw back up and hope

That next time will be longer

Before it all comes back.

Slithering

Scaly things

Drag you down into black.

"It's all okay," you tell yourself,

Words whispered with no meaning

The walls may sway from searching hands

But it's only a seeming.

You're safe, you're fine, your heart is whole

Your mind is yet unbroken

"I'll be alright," you say again,

Falser words never spoken.
