Surrounded by Freedom

An easy way to stay quiet

Surrounded by freedom means that in a room full of my peers I'm most likely the only one that doesn't look like my peers

It means that in order for me to be heard I must modulate and permutate;

My speech patterns and body language have to imitate

I have to assimilate in order to integrate.

There is a clear struggle, a sheer hustle

But I'm forced to stay humble

You might have never noticed, or...maybe you have--

Seen the videos of our dance or caught a glimpse of our hands.

But more than likely you haven't because you have the freedom to ignore it or not be aware of it

You have the freedom to tolerate and find new ways to obfuscate

What you learned as history...about all the g.o.a.t.s

We learned to stay quiet while surrounded by ghosts.

While the judicial system forces crooked confessions

And our history is falsified by most of our professors

To detach us from our culture: true suppressors.

Don't you see what it means to be lessor?

Forced to praise the lineage of oppressors with recessive gene pools for successors.

You'll never know what it's like to be the only one until you're the only one standing in the room hoping that...

"if only one person were to notice" that you're the only one person--.

Not asking, not demanding for a hand out. But persistently extending a hand out because we aren't given the freedom to stand out.

Surrounded by freedom doesn't mean we are all truly free.

It means that I'm forced to have to more fight in me.
