Superman Killed Himself
For George Reeves, the Original Superman
No one is immortal
Even Superman can die
He might take a lot of blows
But someday will come his time
* * *
No one is invincible
Even Superman has his Kryptonite
He must hide it from the world
Lest others take advantage
* * *
No one is emotionless
(except for psychopaths)
Even Superman can cry
If he were to lose Lois
* * *
But how can any of us navigate
This whirlwind of emotions and loss?
Even the Man of Steel shot himself—
Or did someone raise the gun to his head?
* * *
We all have a choice
To stand still or to walk forward
To remain mild-mannered Clark Kent
Or to be our own superheroes
* * *
So lower the gun
And hide away the Kryptonite
For we are all Men of Steel tonight
We are all the Last Children of Krypton
And we will make it through the fight
* * *
Author’s Note: I’m fine, in case this poem had anyone worried. I was just inspired to write it by the mysteries surrounding the death of George Reeves, the first person to play Superman on TV. For more information on this, follow the link below.

I vaguely remember being aware of this case because of being something of a trivia buff. But that aside, I love the positivity in your poem. I'll always think of you and will always ask if you're okay. I know I am prone to doing that lol, so thank you for the author's note! This was very inspiring and love the way you fully developed the Superman metaphor.
Wow powerful! Very inspiring words to get through life hardships.
Yep, there isn't any Superman, Stephanie. But we can be the strongest versions of ourselves we can!
I never knew about any of this. The fact that his fiancee told her friends that he's going upstairs to shoot himself is so sus. And they didn't even immediate call the police. And so many irregularities as well. Loved your poem!
It doesn't seem worrisome to me, I sure saw where this was inspired by! Great work! 👏👏👏
