Sunsets

A love poem

By Lily WinterPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

The sunset is beautiful.

It’s an indisputable fact,

and everyone with working eyes

and an appreciation for color

will tell you the same thing.

And despite the pinks, and yellows,

and the clouds that dance across the fading light,

I bring out my phone

And take a picture of you instead

As much as I love sunsets,

And despite how many of the thousands of pictures in my camera roll

are strictly of the sky,

Seeing your face light up as you watch the sun disappear for the day

Is 1,000 times more precious to me.

I know tomorrow, there will be another sunset

It’s the way of the world.

For every day that exists on this earth,

It is a scientific event that remains consistent.

The sun will rise, and the sun will set.

And tonight, I have you here to see it too,

And while the sun is a constant,

For all I know, we could both be gone in a moments notice,

And I’ve already seen the sun be as beautiful as ever,

So just in case you’re gone tomorrow,

today, you have all my attention.
