Years ago. I wrote us a poem.
One that sketched us as sun and moon.
For you were my brother I never had
And I your sister too
Sun and moon; moon and sun
The celestial twins.
We were the opposite sides of a coin.
The same but so different too.
My blond bright eyed brother. Lover of sun and water
And me the dark hair mysterious sister. Friend of night and fire.
How close we were.
Now pulled apart by time and life.
I miss you my brother, my friend.
My first lover.
Made brother and sister by our peers.
And so we became the twins.
Lovers of a different kind.
Of souls and mind.
Always together and always apart.
Like sun in moon
Together in the same sky
But apart in time.
Only to meet once in a while.
For us this was summers.
Rather than just eclipses.
But now life has torn us in two.
No longer sun and moon.
No longer the twins
Not brother and sister.
Not lovers
We are now memories.
Distant relics of past selfs.
No longer moon
No longer sun
Now stars twinkling in different universes.

Loved this! Thank you Mackenzie for recommending it!
Oh my, so glad Mackenzie shared this one on Raise Your Voice. This had a real sense of heartbreak to it and loved the way distance factored into it, like Mackenzie said! I am now subscribed and can't wait to read more of your work! Superb, Lane!
Wow. I love how this flows. And the emotion in your words are stunning. Beautiful evocations and I really like the theme of intensifying distance. 👏👏👏
