Summers Of My Youth

A poem inspired by childhood summers

By Rasma RaistersPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Summers of my youth,

spent beneath the shining sun.

Feet upon golden sand,

building sandcastle dreams,

picking wildflowers in meadows,

while chasing butterflies -

beneath brilliant skies of blue.

Summers of my youth,

carefree, just drifting along,

with the summer breeze.

Rising with the sun,

joining birds in song.

Along the seashore,

splashing through the waves,

that came ashore,

tripping and falling -

as I tried to catch seagulls flying by.

Happy days,

as white clouds drifted by,

so many reasons to sigh,

as melted chocolate ice cream cones,

covered by mouth and nose.

On days when the rain came,

barefoot out the door,

splashing in mud puddles,

as a rainbow arced across the sky.

Happy days with fond memories,

that ended in great surprise,

with the first autumn breezes,

first few falling leaves,

me being dragged,

kicking and screaming -

into the autumn season.
