Summer

Make hay while the sun shines

By Ellie MayzePublished about a year ago 1 min read
Purple Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii atropurpureum) with it's miniscule red-tinged yellow flowers of just 3-4mm

Sweat beads pushed by the slight breeze group together and dribble downwards tickling my skin until I swipe them with a finger,

Clematis perfume riding high over the mineral tang of freshly hosed slate chippings where groups of wild garlic stench pleasantly,

Cold boiled egg with the sharp zing of salt in between mouthfuls of hot, sweet, milky coffee,

I lie down to rest looking up at endless blue sky dissected by two thin black power lines and the top of a dark-green fir tree,

I hear my heated, panting breath and many birds calling out whilst a nearby dog pierces the air with a volley of irritable woofs.

Your vivid, sensory description brings the moment to life, blending simple pleasures with nature’s rawness in a beautiful way.

A lot of sensations. Nicely written.
