sudden loss of balance

it really happened!

I took a tumble in the street

my head spun 180 degrees

I had a close encounter with asphalt

one moment up, the next down

legs in the air and head on the ground

I was launched into space like a spaceship real quick

the cars were closing in, the phone lay on the tarmac

I had to think fast like a soldier

straighten up as swift as I could

up in one rapid movement

to avoid accidental consequences

of unpleasant encounters

pain in left knee and left palm

I had to do some shopping somehow

do not cry, get on with it

as no one will do it for me

there was a bruise when I got home

purple swollen circle to remember it

unfortunate stumble upon

crooked curb

credentials unknown

That first time we tumble as an adult, forgetting the lessons we'd learned in childhood of tuck & roll, is truly both embarrassing & painful. It happened to me in my junior year of college just two weeks before my junior cello recital. Just figuring out how to play without making that wrist send me through the ceiling was quite the challenge. You captured the sense of this extremely well.
