Strawberry Ruse

Poppy's Prompts for April

He bade her to come into his place,

And she, unaware of time or space

Hastened in agreement, well...she obliged.

*

She had not been warned, informed, or apprised.

Her youthful heart believed in blind love and trust,

She knew not the danger of this lurk she was thrust.

*

From the tape deck, played his favorite cassette,

A romantic ensemble for the girl he just met.

Charmed by a glass of strawberry-laden champagne,

Lulled her with disposable words he would feign.

*

She woke, laid bare, quite discarded and alone,

hearing him talk to another female via the phone.

Her innocence, so gullible, and frail

Lost to the sabotage he used to assail.

*

The cab picked her up and took her to safety,

Lessons learned so harshly, deceitfully, and hasty.

Guard always your heart and lead with your mind.

That way you won't be taken to traps for the blind.

Heartbreaking and sadly very relevant and common. So well written though. My favourite stanza was: "From the tape deck, played his favorite cassette, A romantic ensemble for the girl he just met. Charmed by a glass of strawberry-laden champagne, Lulled her with disposable words he would feign."

  • So well done, so deeply felt. Great job

With this you have skillfully captured a heartbreaking story of a young woman who falls victim to deception and manipulation. I am sure this is a story of many girls nowdays. The message of being cautious and guarding one's heart is a powerful takeaway from the narrative. Great work.
