Stranger
© Desiree M. 2012
I am a stranger, foreign in this land.
I see the world around me, and I just don't understand.
The words are meaningless and the language I cannot speak.
Will I ever find the answers that I seek?
Lost and wandering in a world so confusing and new,
I really do not know what I ought to do.
They all see the feelings of anguish written on my face.
The anxiety is visible and its signs I cannot erase.
It is hard to bear the fact that nobody cares.
No one tries to communicate; no one ever dares.
The creatures here are strange to me.
The customs are peculiar to see.
Their ways are unfamiliar and harsh in my eyes.
Acts of violence are many, along with deception and lies.
It seems unruly chaos reigns in this place.
An ancient savage instinct smoulders below the surface.
They do not see how it consumes them and calls the majority slave.
I am beginning to observe a quiet few, strong and brave,
Who like myself resist the tyranny of the darkness all around.
All of us are screaming inside but cannot make a sound.
To some of us it is obvious and everything is so clear,
While others just do not like the changes made so near.
Together we must come up with a way,
To stop the insanity and save the day.
Wisdom and compassion must we work to restore,
Or this strange land is doomed to be destroyed in bloody war.
