Story of a Canvas

Submission for True Colours Challenge

By Hope BanyardPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

This is my heart and my love,

And my soul.

A crisp sunrise - gentle pink hue,

An earthy pebbled shore to cradle me as I watch the ocean blue.

The waves rising.

Falling as one,

Their crystal white horses ride out from the sun.

You heart was bitter, or at least I think,

Your soul was not sunrise but a bright flaming pink,

Your pink was malicious, manipulative, and vicious,

No place on the shore, nor ocean blue,

That pink it was bold, and it drew me to you.

I let my heart be fooled,

I left my heart to break,

I let you force day from my subtle dawn colours.

I turned to your pink and -

I trusted it blindly,

It hid a Crimson,

The ocean thrashed behind me.

It warned me and warned me in its shaded out grey,

But I could not listen,

Since I'd turned away.

You took all of that, my gentle pink hue,

My earthy pebbled shore and my darling ocean blue.

That was my heart, my love

And my soul,

Now sunrise blotted out

By clouds of charcoal,

My pebbles white chalky,

My ocean gone grey,

My life fallen shaded.

Crimson stole colour away.

Then rolls by Beige,

Plain, safe, and simple,

I used Beige as Beige used me,

For Beige I am not proud,

Though together we tinged this soulful –

Pebbled shore brown.

Under guise of Maroon, Crimson slid back in,

Bringing a proud purple hat to show myself in.

But with Purple used up Crimson was now,

And no different was Crimson this time around,

My heart kept my hat and pushed crimson out.

So burst through Orange,

Cheerful and bright,

As warm as my sun and Orange coloured it right,

Darn near perfect,

As you will see,

Painted Sunset from Sunrise

And shared it with me.

Orange knew of Crimson,

Saw it and shared,

“There's Crimson at sunset,

It will always be there”.

But Orange cared not for the colours around.

Orange gave love, which about me orange wound.

So, I gave love too,

With my love I loved Orange

And coloured my darling ocean blue.

This is my heart and my love,

And my soul,

It was muted,

It was shaded,

It was painted - vibrant, honest, and whole.
