I'm wide awake.
Laying here, the sheet feels crisp against my skin
my vulnerability exposed, the hidden falls out
and I catch myself staring at it through blurry eyes
I try to look away but
it makes me look, in a relentless betrayal
of my innermost being
splayed out in a heap like a crime scene
tears splattered across the walls and ceiling
reveal startled imperfections
clinging to shards of shadows
outside my window
the stars twinkle gently and
seem closer than usual
as I drift off to sleep
in the morning
the sun will chase the dark away
the tear stains will be gone
all evidence removed by
the sun's warmth and
balming rejuvenation
of my spirit
and I will return to the
battlefield to fight for
a precious soul.

Love this—raw and quietly triumphant. Even the messiest moments get polished by light and time— your imperfection is your power. 💖
