She loved him;

even if he didn’t remember her birthday.

He was not good at those things.

He didn’t remember most things that wasn’t his way.

They tried once to be lovers, but he forgot the rubbers and they promised to remain friends.

Sort of,

Kind of,

Not really.

He e-mailed her once, early one morning, saying he was seeing someone else and that he had no reason to see her again.

But she went on loving him, still.

Over the years, they kept in contact, exchanging information which she held dear to her heart; even though she knew there was no chance of them ever getting together.

They were past that now, outgrown.

But, she kept on loving him, still.

She knew of his lovers, friends, girls and guys. Where he lived, what he did, his job, his hobbies throughout the years.

And he knew the same of her , but they grew into their own separate ways, in spite of life’s journeys.

She held in her heart a love that would never stop.

For, she kept on loving him, still.

They met once.

An unplanned event, but could not speak.

In that moment the love she felt for him swelled up in her heart and she knew that she would never be able to escape him, no matter what.

So, she just kept on loving him, still…

Over the years, in spite of their journeys, they kept in touch.

Their love for each other grew not as lovers or girlfriend and boyfriend, but as cohorts, companions … just friends.

She loved hanging around with him and yes, she thought of him often past the relationship of a friend.

And he thought of her the same way, too.

But they knew.

It never went any farther…

Because in the heart of hearts, the love they had for one another was something that could not be touched.

He kept on loving her as she kept on loving him.

And their love continued to grow within

Still…

He didn’t remember her birthday, but he remembered her always. For the love that he had for her was the deepest love he’d ever known…

Because he loved her ….

Still.
