when Freedom calls me center stage
I come forth with blazing fire
raging under my feet
Drowning in commotion
way ahead of my time.
I hear sirens sing
ringing my third eye
Awakening my spirit guides
Teach me the way
Allow me to live
Tell me what would I do
if I can’t embrace my black skin?
This foundation was built
on the backs of my tribe
Yet you drape me in red white and blue lies
constantly covering for the
murders
rapists
and misogynist
of every kind
Then forcing me to watch it on television
with the volume on high
Gaslighting me to think that
what is yours is mine.
I can’t believe my eyes
the more I learn what’s at stake.
My reproductive rights being taken away
My brothers and sisters in love being
shot in broad day
Where is my refuge?
Who is coming to our rescue?
In this season of overcoming
There will be nomore running
