Spring in Louisiana

Challenge from J. Delaney-Howe's (What Does Spring Look Like to You?)

By Shirley BelkPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
Louisiana Spring

Spring, where I live, is very short-lived...

temps seem like winter, with new growth arrived.

*

Out pops the daffodils and daisies, too...

all in colors of yellows, pinks, purples, and blues.

*

Cool mornings and nights, warm days and breezes...

sunny days between rainy ones, oh how it teases.

*

Brings joy and renewed hope in God's happy phases...

laughter and sunshine to each one in our faces.

*

Some call us rednecks; some call us Cajuns...

but admittedly our Spring spirit is contagion.

*

So, if ever you are down in our country, please stop by...

guaranteed to rub off, come and "git it" don't be shy.

*

Louisiana wildflowers and I welcome you to our state...

Summer's just around the corner, so come now...hurry...don't wait!

So beautiful! Reading this was like a walk through a dewey and posie-filled meadow :)

  • This is delightful… as is spring! 💙 I love ‘Out pops the daffodils and daisies, too... all in colors of yellows, pinks, purples, and blues.’ Gorgeous! Are those irises in the photo? My Mum grew a lot of them! Some of my favourites!👍🏼

From when we lived in Louisiana, I remember the bright pink flowers growing along the road edges and the blanket of crimson clover growing in the medians of the highway (especially in western LA). Loved your poem and the photo, Shirley!

You describe the changing weather and the colourful flowers in such a vivid way. It's clear that you really love your state and the joy of springtime. By the way, we are already enjoying June and July temperatures. Bad consequences of climate change.
