Speaking Through Soles
May 2022

5/24/22
It is Tuesday— I don’t know if this is all a hallucination— I am speaking through the soles of my feet— muffled by cotton and suede—
It’s raining leaves now— not water— not rain like it should— it should be warm now— my head is swimming—
Gongs sound off in the distance— I know you can hear them— tell me you can hear them too— please do not stand so close to me—
The lights are foggy again— I am trying to take deep breaths just like you said— why does it keep coming undone— tie it again— blink those away—
It is dark now— my arms do not belong to me— why are you taking so long— it is so close— you are so close—
I wonder if it will storm tonight— I will keep my eyes shut tight— I won’t look— I won’t—
I will not use my blanket until it storms again— I promise— I promise— I promise—

This is so present and sensory, discomfiting, more like fall than spring, like a blanket which wraps and suffocates at the same time. The feeling lingers. Lovely work 🙏
Well written, congrats 👏
