Soul vs Self

A Poem about Identity

By Bethany JoAnnaPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

I am a warrior

Forged through hellfire

And bathed

in light.

***

I am a survivor

From the brinks of death

I bring

new life.

***

I am a mother,

The nurturer of a child,

Who fears for him

Everyday.

***

I am a daughter

The one who cannot be tamed,

Yet still attempts to please

Everyone else.

***

I am an author

A “word weaver” as they say

Yet at this moment, words

Escape me.

***

I am free.

Free to choose the life that I want

Yet, shackles still

Bind me.

***

I am alive,

I wake up every day,

But, Am I actually

Living?

***

I am an artist,

I express myself through

Different mediums, yet I cant seem to

Choose just one.

***

I am empowered,

And I will use my voice,

So….

*Why am I so afraid to hear it?*

This poem beautifully captures the duality between inner strength and lingering self-doubt. Each stanza functions as a mirror, reflecting both empowerment and vulnerability—a delicate, relatable balance.
