little by little

we watched as love died

collected the dirt

and pretended to cry

a callous betrayal, became our demise

I was sure caught off guard, by my naive surprise

lost in denial, at the trail of your lies

looking at you, without your disguise

standing before you, gazing into your eyes,

I find I am happy, to tell you goodbye

goodbye is the rescue, that once tore me apart

it took me some time to re-configure my heart

and you played your part well, the "victim - by proxy"

tamed your emotions, with whiskey and oxy

what a sad, sad tale, we turned out to be

but you see, I am the winner, because I saved me
