My mother placed a seat by the window
and told me to watch the sun set.
Through blurred vision and aching eyelids,
I focused my sight on the changing colours
behind the silhouette of dead branches
that will soon bloom into life.
The sky transitioned from a fire amber
to a dusked ash before I could grasp its true form.
This is how quickly your world can change.
When you believe you are dancing in the flames
and that your soul is gold and your mind is okay,
the sky above turns to grey.
These feelings of happiness are too fleeting
to believe that they will last forever.
Only when it descends into darkness
do we appreciate its presence.
Understand this,
the sun must always set
but it will rise again.
Should you ever wish for death,
or feel as though you are not truly alive,
know that you will, too, soon bloom into life.
