Somewhere I Don't Belong

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Verse 1

I’ve been holding my breath in a room full of echoes

Tracing old steps where the light never goes

Tried to fit in, tried to stay small

But the silence grew louder than it all

Pre-Chorus

Every comfort came with chains

Every smile masked the strain

I knew the cost, I felt the wrong

Of staying somewhere I don’t belong

Chorus

Change is painful, it cuts like a song

But nothing hurts like staying too long

In a place that dims your fire

Where your truth can’t rise any higher

So I’ll walk through the flame, I’ll face the unknown

‘Cause I won’t stay stuck somewhere I don’t belong

Verse 2

I’ve cried in corners dressed as peace

Made bargains with my own release

But the soul knows when it’s caged

And the heart won’t lie with age

Bridge

There’s a breaking that becomes a birth

A leaving that reclaims your worth

I’ll take the ache, I’ll take the fall

To find the place where I stand tall

Final Chorus

Change is painful, it shakes the ground

But nothing hurts like being bound

To a story that’s lost its name

To a life that won’t reclaim

So I’ll rise through the ash, I’ll sing my own song

I won’t stay stuck somewhere I don’t belong
