Soliloquy to the Moon

A Soliloquy

By Michael BradshawPublished 2 months ago 2 min read

It has been some time since I last spoke to you…

You’ve always been there for me, always there to listen. Tonight, I need you more than I have in a very long time.

The pain in my chest is heavy, and I fear it takes a toll on my thoughts.

Even now, standing here alone in this clearing under your gaze, it isn’t you I see.

Your soft light falls through these silver-leafed trees, like her gentle smile…

You still know how to find me, don’t you, little one? Even when I cannot find you.

I can almost hear your laugh in the rustling leaves, see your footprints glowing where this moonlight pools on the moss.

You’d tell me not to cry, wouldn’t you? Scold me for letting my tears reflect your light.

What else am I to do…when every breath feels empty now?

The gods give no claim of you—as if they had the right.

As if they grasped how your touch could revive a faded bloom.

How you could calm the wolves with a whisper, how you could make me believe the world still held kindness.

If they wanted kindness, they should have left you here, where you belonged.

Not turned you into a ghost hanging above me in cold, white silence.

Look at you now—some place that I cannot follow.

The moon shines your light while I ROT beneath the roots, chasing your shadow through dreams that never end.

Tell me, sister, do you see what they’ve done?

The world is cruel, and I am tired of begging it to be gentle.

No more prayers. No more tears.

If they can take, then so can I.

I will tear down their gates and shatter the sky.

I will build a world where death has no claim—where you walk again beneath these trees, laughing, alive.

A world that never dares to take you from me.

So watch me, moon. Watch as I reshape the earth and burn the stars if I have to.

If the gods demand balance, I will break their scales.

If fate demands sacrifice, I will unmake fate itself.

Forgive me, little one…

But I will destroy every haven, just to see you smile once more.

Michael Bradshaw

Started writing a few years back in the form of roleplay, writing little stories of fiction with other people. As time went by I realized I loved it and others enjoyed reading my work. I just hope that I can create more for people to enjoy.
