The Beauty of the First Snow Outside

A Villanelle poem

By Michael BradshawPublished about a year ago 1 min read

As a screen door opens up wide,

Little did the young child know,

The beauty of the first snow outside.

They tried not to dose,

Making their tired feet the stair,

Only just realizing the bite at their nose.

The grogginess began to subside,

As excitement slowly took over with

The beauty of the first snow outside.

With glee, they strode across the yard,

Knowing that soon school might be cancelled.

They wished for it, and wished for it hard.

They thought of the fun this would provide.

Joy brought by the first snowball from

The beauty of the first snow outside.

They stood waiting for the bus at the roadside.

Smiling as they heard it pulling up,

They couldn’t wait to see their friends and confide

The beauty of the first snow outside.
