Soft Sage Green
Introversion in a sound-saturated world

Quiet is company in a sound-saturated world,
Where thoughts can grow unguarded,
Where silence is but an old friend,
And soft sage stillness lives in the air.
The quiet moves among giant things,
That don’t know they’re alive.
The green breathes life into distant blue,
I lay between them, long to be green too.
I suck down vital molecules,
Get lost in all the noise.
Search for colour in the grey,
In other’s eyes, in distant days.
Wish the world was more designed,
For quiet people, quiet lives.
Those who breathe easy on their own
Know loneliness doesn’t mean alone.
Those like me who find conversation,
With the trees and birds and sun,
Who prefer quiet company,
Of big blue skies and vast green lungs.
Because green is all encompassing,
In the far reaches of the world.
She wraps gentle hands around sharp edges,
Bids serenity unfurl.
If I were green, a giant thing,
I’d have no fleeting fear.
I would never know nor care,
That my demise crept nearer.
And I would never have such need,
For sounds or voice or words.
Great boughs sway, unfurl new leaves.
Quiet is company for soft sage green.
