Social Norm
A poem about how being unique is no longer unique.

Beaten into social norm submission,
Unknowing how to be my own person.
All there is is pop culture,
And who is there to emulate next?
Traits taken from famous entities,
Never knowing if there is uniqueness left within me.
Worried that if I don’t do it right,
There won’t be a way to distinguish my life.
Because who wants to be friends with someone who doesn’t fit in?
When did uniqueness become the new norm?
Everyone is different now,
But in a paradox that means they conform.
What happened to letting your light shine bright?
We are now in a world,
With perhaps too much light.
