And no one tells you what it feels like to fall out of love.

Bubble baths gurgling down the drain,

Cicadas screaming their final notes,

Disintegrating vows scattered like ashes,

Early morning quarrels shatter the calm,

Feet pacing, feet fleeing, feet ungrounded,

Grieving the past, present and possibilities,

Hollow "I love you's" veil growing discontent,

Icy pecks instead of passionate kisses,

Jarring tongues clash in rageful heat,

Keeping secrets locked behind barred lips,

Leaving minds to wander astray,

Melancholic sighs strip stale sheets,

Numbing void consumes you whole,

Over and over the embers smolder and die,

Parting ways on divergent paths,

Questioning if love ever truly existed,

Retreating within your fortress of solitude,

Smothering lingering sparks in your core,

Trying to unravel this tangled mess,

Until you come undone beneath the moonlight,

Vacant and light without the burdened heart,

Weathered down to stardust once again,

X-ing out calendar days,

You emerge renewed as time resets to

Zero. Perhaps it was all just a nightmare.

Oh, I like the breaking down of the narrative, from start to a sad yet hopeful beginning. Beautiful.
