Smooth as Porcelain

Just as Fine

By Gerard DiLeoPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
How things stack up

Our love is smooth as porcelain

The surface where we dance

With hardly a rise, imperfection, or chip

Frictionless, we glide

***

Microscopy magnifies our strata

X-rays penetrate our surface

Explorations of details

Continue revealing ceramic smooth sheets

***

Our veneer is beautiful

But the structure is delicate

We can break at some point

Stress countervails strength

***

The deeper we love

The more layers we see

To reassure us until

Irregularities appear

***

Strength determined by how deep

Before the terrain gets bumpy

Love, strong, all the way down

Smooth layers until

***

Loves, unbreakable, are those deep indeed

Before the going gets rough

At the atomic scales where potholes

Are just the small things

***

Shelves are made to stack our plates

And what we have on them

The imperfections, the small things met,

We don't sweat, all the way to china
