Smoked Out

another dreamy poem

I can't stop dreaming of you

And good God, I've tried.

I've dipped my brain in kerosene

And taken a match to my thoughts

But you still linger, now like smoke.

.

I've given you the key to immortality,

Turned you into something else.

I've ruminated and obsessed and dreamt

Until the shape of you has shifted

Into something that can withstand

The ugly fallout of a bombed soul.

.

I will be in ruins, little more than rubble.

You will be the ash, clinging and cluttering

Air that would be otherwise toxic.

Still, I will fall to pieces like wooden blocks

Poorly leaned on top of one another.

And you will be the ghost,

The smoke haunting the last of my dreams.

Shadowed souls, cursed magic, poetry that tangles itself in your soul and yanks out the ugly darkness from within. Maybe there's something broken in me, but it's in you too.

This was so incredibly visceral! That particular line about “a bombed soul” was so hard-hitting.

  • I love how vivid this one is... and dang I can relate to this one so much! I loved it!!

Such vivid apocalyptic imagery! Dreamy in a dark macabre way! Wonderfully wrought, Silver!
