"Smile"

By: Me

Smile-

Even when your heart is breaking

And when the nightmares keep your soul from gently waking

When the blue skies melt beneath the painted surface

When your thoughts are broken, limp from lifelessness

When the tears blind your pale, hurting eyes

And when the only friend to you is darkness in disguise

When there is nothing left that calls to your lonely heart

And all has dimmed but the anguish that tears your dreams apart

Smile-

Even when your lips are trembling

And your hope's lungs fill with blood

Or when the waning moon above, dissembling

Rises at the dawn, yellowed in its scud

Even when the sorrowed hand leaves go

And does not falter

When the short drop sends you home

Cared for by the hempen halter

Smile, at last, for this you know:

There is no warmer peace or joy

Than that of sinking into the richest loam

Mother's arms in safe employ

Smile, for you are Home.
