My body is empty

My mind is still

Yet my heart aches

I try, but I fail

To make way for the day

Sleep eludes me

Like a playful child

Almost within reach

But forever one step ahead

It dances above me as I lay in my bed

For something so cherished

It knows how to evade

To avoid stepping foot

In the bed that I made

Slumber is cherished

It taunts me from above

Refusing to release

The sleep I so love

If I could just nod off

Many dreams await

But it does not care

For my sleepless state

As the sun rises

My heart sinks

Forever, my long-lost, love
