Skin

Moya Rose

By Moya RosePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I see this means so much to you

You’re afraid that it will touch you

But why? it’s just skin

It has no thorns to prick you

No knives to stick you

It’s just skin

Yes, it’s as dark as charcoal

But it does not define my soul

I am not a murderer, or a theif, though I admit I may be a sinner

still, no part of me is inferior.

To your skin you claim is superior

it’s just skin

It’s just another organ

So why do you fear it

Why are you so afraid to get near it?

You don’t fear a man’s heart if he looks like you

But this skin terrifies you, Why?

it’s just skin

Should we peel it off

Should we just be flesh and bones?

Would you accept us then? Would you leave us alone?

To live, to laugh, to love in peace.

Would you see that underneath we are the same?

That it does not define us

And it will not cause you pain

We are humans too , only just darker, we share similar joys, worries, pain and love stories

so why do we deserve to be on the sidewalk bloody, with knees on our necks and bullets in our backs?

Why?

It's just skin
