Sink into my skin

A temporary shock that knocked me,

As the truth of your passing came,

I tried to grasp onto something

To grapple with life’s uncertain pain.

~

I sat by your remaining heartstrings

Tried to see a path to understanding

I wrote words as an epitaph of love

But nothing held me to the surface.

~

I couldn’t ask you what you thought,

Nor breath a word to anyone else,

For you were who I was most like,

You understood me like yourself.

~

In permanence, just like your death,

In defining ink your name now reads,

A piece of you sinks into my skin,

To keep you closer than the night sky.
