Sing, Mother Nature, Sing

The earth speaks, so listen.

the wind starts telling me secrets

as sunbursts coat my skin in waves—

and I know blessings in these greetings,

every inch of me alive as I soak up the air,

'till the day is singing straight to my heart,

bird-speak fluttering through the leaves above.

you have a voice that filters through the warmth

of this basking glow we humans know as light,

and I know I'll be wishing on shooting stars

just to feel this kind of embrace once again.

your song is a symphony of the whole round world,

and I want to cherish these moments in gulps

as if I'm thirsting and only water can sustain me.

the soil may crack with drought tomorrow,

or flames may rise up from a blanket of heat,

or the waves may crash against the boundaries—

but I know that's the way you say you're hurting,

and sometimes we just don't listen long enough

to hear just how this earth is crying out for relief.

sing, let it all wash over me; sing, let it all come out—

and I know I'm not the only one who will hear the call.
