Simply A Dream

Shelby Davenport

By Shelby DavenportPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

As I lay awake at night and ponder the thoughts of you through my head, I fall asleep quickly due to the loneliness of this bed.

I see you and I running circles around our age

Our dreams quickly becoming reality; our stories lengthening page after page.

Love never capable of dying; us never capable of sighing.

Futures growing into something we are proud of

Thinking we can have it all with no boundaries other than love.

We stare at each other deeply into green and brown shields

Then we run into bluebonnet spread green and brown fields.

At this point we aren't 18 and young anymore

Instead adults; with kids, careers, a home, always going to the store.

Perfection I'd call it and nevertheless happy

Even though the perfect love story is always viewed as sappy.

I look in the mirror and you are standing next to me

Then you disappearing before my eyes is all that I see.

Alarm goes off.

I wake up alone as when I fell asleep.

It was only eyelid shut deep.

Turns out love doesn't always physically last

Almost only becomes a figure of one's past; changes so fast

Things aren't always as bad as they seem.

You can pretend that the whole relationship was simply a dream...
