Simple Math?

by Sam Harty

By ᔕᗩᗰ ᕼᗩᖇTYPublished 24 days ago Updated 21 days ago 1 min read

One plus one equals two

is not always simple math.

--

Relationships are harder—

one person trusting their heart

to a stranger

they are just getting to know.

--

That’s complex math.

--

The first smile,

holding hands,

sharing a coffee—

that part feels easy.

--

Then there’s making love,

rings,

vacations,

shared bills,

shared fears,

shared futures.

--

Love becomes an equation

that doesn’t always balance.

People kill in the name of love.

Wars have started over jealousy.

It can make the math irrational.

--

One plus one

can become everything—

or it can become nothing at all.

--

That’s the math

no one teaches you.
