Silk Floss

An ode to this Malvaceae family member

Silk floss @Seema

I am a phytophile,

enchanted by my plants.

I came to a foreign land

and saw thousands of new species.

At first, I was shocked,

too many unfamiliar plants,

so much to identify.

But then I called it an opportunity,

and one year of intense learning

made me aware of them all.

Today, I reap the rewards,

of the sincere effort,

as my little kids are

budding botanist too.

The above tree is silk floss,

in full floral glory.

Soon it will bear fruits,

bursting into fluffy cotton.

A Malvaceae family member,

just like hibiscus and mallow.

Its trunk is green and plump,

studded with thorns.

By loving plants,

I enrich my own soul.

With hope to raise awareness.

I keep writing,

one ode after another.

Thank you for reading.

It's always a lovely way to spend one's time, studying the flora and fauna around them. <3
