Writer Naval Ravikant was right
when he said the taste of freedom
can make you unemployable.
I took a career break
to focus on health
and to create a family.
It was meant to be brief,
but it stretched into years.
Now, the thought of going back
scares me, plunges me into stress,
for freedom is a real privilege.
On this winter day,
I went on a nature walk with my son
and came back enriched.
I did gardening,
painted to my heart’s desire,
and sat in the backyard
with the sun warming my back.
I looked at the tranquil statues,
the Buddha and the angel,
smelled narcissus and geranium,
watched the lush mint and spring onions.
lizards chased each other,
the sky was spotless blue,
life felt peaceful.
Yes, I did PhD and masters,
on complex topics,
burned midnight oil for decades,
and have a lot to share.
But why would I leave this paradise
for a few hundred dollars?
Ravikant was right,
those who savor freedom
and know the worth of owning time
will fear a routine job.
