Sickophancy Fallacy

Poem or rant? Either/and/or/both.

I've been thinking about the word ingratiate

how it sounds rolling off my tongue, it sticks

in my throat, distasteful disdain, the refrain

inflamed senseless egobasting in jus de fous

cacophonous sickophancy fallacy,

est-ce pour curry flavour,

est-ce pour win over

the idea of ingratiating is nauseating, to me

transactional reactional, dissatisfactional

sometimes, being nice, is anything but

when there's a but, an end goal, beyond

encouragement, inspirement, motivatiment

ingratiation pour votre self-satisfaction

brutalisation of a civilisation foundation

Excellent writing Paul! I love the care behind each placed word in this. It felt like eating a dictionary...in a good way!

and here it is: sometimes, being nice, is anything butwhen there's a but, an end goal exactly; well said and I see you are throwing some French in there again, LOL. Congratulations on being on the Leaderboard! 🥳 🥳 🥳

  • Wooohooooo congratulations on your Leaderboard placement! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊

This is a great poem! I hate the concept of ingratiating behavior. It's so gross. Leaves a sour taste in the mouth. You do a great job of capturing that! Beautiful word choice too. One of your best!

    Brilliant work Paul! 💪🏾

Also!!! Thank you so much for participating in the Re(lie)ability Challenge! I loved looking at your work (as I always do, it was just nice to have a deliberate excuse to make the time 😉). I believe I have fulfilled your prize. Thank you so much again!!

Oooooh... I love that first idea, that the word "ingratiate" sticks on your tongue, as if a disease that fills you just by saying it. How awful it is to think about... I love the utilization of all the big words in this. A really incredible piece of work. [Prize 5/5]

Who's to say that all our works aren't some form of a rant or another??? Also, thanks for the vocabulary boost, I did a shit-ton (technically term, there) of googling lol

Roar! I had to look up a couple of words there as I’d forgotten the meanings. Don’t make me look up a the French too. Well one of the words I knew ha. I did a duolingo lesson in the week! Pays off. I’ve actually had a break of it for a year but must get back to get those neutrons firing. I like this, but aren’t we all guilty of this in some shape or form. Particularly in people’s work. Get ahead to get ahead.. is that the phrase..

Quite true isn't it these days. What's the world coming to. You summed it up brilliantly in poetry form though. Well done!

Great piece. Put a picture in my head of all these fake smiles from leaders around the world that take turns to kiss an orange ass.

This is one poem that seems almost with some of the words as a tongue twister in a sense. Good job and it was fun to read.

Your poem/rant is very thought-provoking, Paul. I am really taken with the line: Sometimes, being nice, is anything but. If a poem has a focal point or revelation, if you will, that is it. In a world that is by nature transactional, you scratch my back, I scratch yours, many of us try to find equanimity in our day to day interactions. But when equanimity is impossible…?

  • Oooo, ingratiate is a new word for me. Loved your Paulitical poem 🍩🥐

  • I agree, Paul. I totally agree. There are those who see everything in this world as transactional (e.g., Trump, Musk). I don't think I can afford to be one of them.

The way this flowed was so brilliant, and with poignant messaging too! Ingratiation is just the deterioration of the self for the sake of others. Awesome work, Paul!

🫂Poem or rant, I say someone upset you. Hoping alls better now that you got that venom out of your system <3

"transactional reactional, dissatisfactional" talk about chalking up the human experience, Paul. Reminds me about how a lot of relationships are built upon underlying transactions. I'll be honest, a few people that've done more than disrespect my trust only have a relationship with me on a purely transactional basis. Call it harsh, but some people deserve such treatment.

Love this, especially this line - transactional reactional, dissatisfactional. Perfect.

What a poetic way of saying how passed off you’re getting. Very clever

There's a lot of it going around, it seems. And yeah, it's sickening.

  • Epic. This would work brilliantly as spoken word…would love to hear it. Love me a good Paul rant. Am feeling similarly methinks 🙃

    This is awesome!

  • I've seen the word cacophony so many times in the last few months.. Enjoyed the read...
