Shutting Down

A poem about what happens when I get nagged at.

What is it like

To shut down,

In the middle of a conversation?

It began when,

My parents started

Nagging at me.

When they become enraged,

I immediately stop what I am doing,

And stand silently,

Doing absolutely nothing.

Even though,

Me shutting down,

Is not against any household rules,

This infuriates my parents.

They cannot fathom,

That my mind is blank,

While I try to absorb the entire conversation.

Over several years,

This act of doing absolutely nothing,

Occurs every time my parents get angry,

And try to lecture me.

In the end,

I am doomed to repeat,

The mistakes I cannot control.
