Showing Up

I’ve been a little shaky,

but I keep showing up.

*

I’ve been a little angry,

but I keep showing up.

*

I’m feeling such sadness

for the state of our world,

but I keep showing up.

*

I rage a little, I weep a little,

I wonder at the walking corpses

that used to be my people,

*

but I keep showing up.

*

I show up to the table every morning,

Don Pedrito burning at one corner,

a Mayan calendar at the other,

*

The Buddha in repose between them both,

as I pray for the grace to understand it all.

*

I show up here on the page, crafting

messages to sail into the wind, hoping

they find and heal the broken hearted.

*

I show up in the world with my heart open,

reflecting your humanity back at you

so you know you are seen,

*

know you are loved.

*

I think if we keep showing up together,

each in our little corners of the world,

we can bind these wounds, heal this nation.

*

Show up and create.

*

Show up and be truthful.

*

Show up and be fearless.

*

Just show up,

look around you,

and see how many of us

*

are showing up too.
