Should Have Known Better
I should have known better than to trust the light,
It flickered too soft, too perfect, too bright.
A lure in the dark, a whispering tide,
Pulling me under with nowhere to hide.
I should have seen through the venom-laced grin,
The promises wrapped in shimmering sin.
Each word a dagger, each touch a chain,
Binding my soul to exquisite pain.
I should have turned when the shadows grew,
When silence screamed what I already knew.
But I stayed, I begged, I bled, I burned,
A fool in the fire, too late to learn.
Now the echoes laugh where my warnings fell,
And I walk alone through this private hell.
I should have known better, I should have fled,
But love is a ghost, and so are the dead.

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️
