I know her, I feel her and I truly see who she is
But I feel she hasn’t been herself for sometime,
She knows things have changed in her sorry life
I watch as her emotions go through a paradigm.
***
She struggles with the knowledge, the pain too
Of who she once used to be, missing what’s lost,
The filthy hands of the world stripped her bare
Discarding the price that the devastation cost.
***
She knows now that her soul is full of darkness
Saturated totally, I worry that it is all too much,
Wondering if it’s possible, her soul overflowing
Convinced it will take its toll and self destruct.
***
I weep at her fate, tangled as it is with demons
Her glorious pure heart is now full of sadness,
I am concerned for her future, heart and soul
As her heart beats in tune with her madness.
***
Then I notice her strength, her steadfast will
Realising I am seeing a warrior in all her glory,
So she is darkness, fearful and full of a fire
Protecting her soul, her demons, her territory.
***
Do not be fooled, she wears her sword well
Situated near and protecting her fiery heart,
She will not be separated from her demons
Try and she’ll use her sword to rip you apart.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
