A Fistful Of Heaven

I’m holding on and refusing to let go

There are some days that I tend to struggle

Other days where I wake feeling at peace,

Some days I will easily become the winner

And others where the pain will never cease.

***

At times I practically beg to feel nothing

As my day has carried on for far too long,

But there are also times I wish I could feel

As being constantly numb is just so wrong.

***

I remember many horrid days of hurting

It’s on these nights my demons bury me,

Then a blissful day will finally transpire

I’ll bury my demons, not letting them free.

***

On the nights I struggle with my demons

It would be so easy to give in and give up,

But then I dig into my strength once more

And it’s my demons I successfully beat up.

***

Every time my body and heart gets broken

I dig deep into my strength and remember,

That I will always hold a fistful of heaven

A guiding light that’s always my defender.

***

I dig deeper knowing exactly what I’ll find

Along with my fistful of heaven, I discover

I have way too much hell left in me to give

My temper, my pain, will be seen if I suffer.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
