Sharptooth

A poem by Rowan

By Rowan RileyPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The easiest way to adore is with the teeth, the mouth

The simplest way to show it is with my incisors

I tear at things

I rip into the tender white meat

//

When I love you, I bite the hand

If you deflect, I’ll run away

But if you let me

I will nibble sharp kisses

I’ll leave indentations in my wake

//

I’m so scared of myself

I’m scared of how you’ll react

I bite

I’m strange

It only makes sense to leave

//

But I want, with a heart so heavy it hurts

I love you painfully and desperately

The only way I know how to cling

Is with razor sharp teeth

I filed them into points just for you

//

And when you extend your hand

When you accept the strange

Something in me shifts

And I cannot give it a name

love poems
