Shadow Dancing

With A Lost Love

Loving you became a ghost town

Just me and the evening shadows dancing

to an old lonely tune

The love remaining long after

you had gone

Like an echo in the canyon reverberating

even after the voices of our laughter

had faded

Everything sepia colored like an old post card

from a place I never wanted to forget

Your face

the lines that made you beautiful

Your crescent moon eyes

that crinkled when you laughed

I miss walking those roads

My eyes wandering over the canvas of you

Everything has lost its living color

No more emerald trees and grasses

No more periwinkle skies

or your soft sea glass eyes

Everything has become

a black and white memory

Losing some of its life

The once lively colors have fallen

from my mind

The levity a long forgotten memory

All that is left are the hard edges of this thing

and the magnitude of its sincerity

as the shapes march through my blood

like black birds pounding their wings

against my chest

Hiding themselves between

the dark and the light

This empty chasm of my love

remains

Stark. Enormous. Eternal.
