Set Me Free

living with a disease that consumes all of me

By 'Lissa StufflestreetPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

The memories of you.

The memories of those nights.

The pain.

The agony.

Screaming,

I'm screaming,

as loud as I possibly can.

Nobody can hear me.

Nobody can rescue me.

Trapped.

Buried deep inside,

is a little girl dying to come out.

Buried deep inside,

is a little girl crying for her freedom.

**

The memories of you.

The pain.

The agony.

She had to hold all that inside.

She had to hide it for no one else

to ever find.

She had to constantly tell herself,

that you were just a nightmare she made up

in her own damn mind.

**

For the longest time,

she hated you.

Despised you,

even.

For the longest time,

she wished you were dead,

for what you did to her.

For what you did to her loved ones.

For what you forced her to become.

She hated you.

**

"Go away,"

she'd scream at her empty thoughts.

"Leave me alone,"

she'd constantly tell herself anytime you popped

into her mind.

**

The memories of you.

The pain.

The agony.

Living rent-free inside her

for the longest time.

No amount of medications,

or therapy,

will ever change the fact that

what you did to her..

affected her for a lifetime.

**

But what you did,

the pain you caused,

the horror you forced her to witness,

she won't let you win.

She refuses.

It's her life,

and she's taking it back.

**

Congratulations,

you lost.
