Sensory Deprivation

An ode to my greatest comfort--a much needed time-out when life gets daunting.

All alone

No one around.

No speck of light

No bit of sound.

I sit alone

I sit in peace

My thoughts surround me

My stresses cease.

The day was rough

The week was, too

I need this nothing

To help reboot.

Sounds and questions

Never cease

Thoughts are jumbled

I need release.

I cannot scream,

I cannot vent

I'm trapped in chaos

I'm not meant--

To take it all

Without a rest

This thing called me-time

It's what's best.

Five minutes here

Ten minutes there

Is not enough

I need more care.

Sometimes an hour

Sometimes it's two

Alone in darkness,

Will usually do.

If you're extroverted

Please be kind

Give us introverts

Some time to unwind.

We get daunted

Without a break

We need isolation

For sanity's sake.
