Senseless

Undone

You were blind

And I was numb

So, I spoke

Without my tongue.

You listened

And in your ears

The bells rung

As I tasted my own fears.

You stared

Your eyes empty

The heat of your gaze

Could no longer tempt me.

You turned

Your heart now hollow

There is a bitterness

In the tears I swallow.

You disappeared

With no care to be left

And so, I remain

Alone and bereft.

This is so powerfully poignant and anyone that has felt the sadness of a breakup will likely connect with it. Again, brevity at work with lines of few words, but all the more impactful for it. Thank you for sharing this as one of the submissions for the book! Loved and kinda hated it at the same time, Alyssa! Such is the power of your writing!

This poem is a poignant exploration of the breakdown of a relationship. The imagery is striking, particularly the contrast between the initial connection and the subsequent emptiness. The use of silence and unspoken words is powerful, conveying a sense of loss and longing. The final lines, "You disappeared / With no care to be left / And so, I remain / Alone and bereft," are particularly heartbreaking. It's a beautifully crafted piece that resonates with themes of love, loss, and the fragility of human connection.

  • This was so poignant and relatable as well. Loved your poem!
